We visited another bird banding station, this one at Ruthven Park near Cayuga, ON. It was a very immersive, hands-on experience partly because we were the only visitors there but mostly because the bird bander (Nancy) seemed happy to bring us along for the whole process from removing the birds from the nets, to observing her identifying the birds, determining their age and gender, and banding. Nancy even let us release a few birds back into the wild. Over the course of the morning we learned a lot about migratory birds and every question we had was answered. Here is Roberta letting a white-throated sparrow go free. More posts on this to follow.
